Dr. Bert Cobb Kicks off Campaign with Major Endorsement!
DRIPPING SPRINGS—Together with hundreds of supporters and Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, Dr. Bert Cobb officially launched his general election campaign for Hays County Judge at the Nutty Brown Café on Thursday, September 9th.
Dr. Cobb is former chief of surgery at Central Texas Medical Center and the Republican nominee for county judge.
“I am humbled by this outpouring of support,” said Dr. Cobb. “Your enthusiasm proves that Hays County families are tired of being overtaxed, over-regulated, and under-served by their county government.”
Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson spoke at the event and offered Dr. Cobb his endorsement. In his eight years at the helm of the General Land Office, Commissioner Patterson has earned a reputation of responsible leadership by increasing the Texas Permanent School Fund and improving the state’s veterans’ services.
“Commissioner Patterson typifies the kind of responsible leadership that Hays County lacks and needs so badly right now,” said Dr. Cobb. “In this time of growth and economic hardship, we need to stop wasting money and focus on meeting our county’s growing needs.”
Hays County Commissioner Will Conley (R-Wimberley) introduced Commissioner Patterson to the crowd. Conley is currently the only Republican on the commissioners court and the county’s strongest advocate for fiscal responsibility and road improvements.
Dr. Cobb also took his Democrat opponent, Jeff Barton, to task. A current county commissioner, Barton voted to raise property taxes on homeowners two out of the past three years, while also voting to increase his taxpayer-funded salary by more than $8500.
“The Jeff Barton tax hikes and selfish pay increases must stop,” said Dr. Cobb. “We cannot afford this kind of irresponsible leadership anymore.”
The crowd was also informed that, while Dr. Cobb was kicking his campaign off in Hays County, Barton was hosting a $500 per plate fundraiser at the home of a lobbyist in Austin, Texas.
The Barton fundraiser was sponsored by numerous Austin liberals, including Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell, former mayor Kirk Watson, former Austin City Councilwomen Brigid Shea, and Austin State Representatives Donna Howard, Elliot Naishtat, Mark Strama, and Eddie Rodriguez, calling for “progressive leadership” in Hays County.
