Meet Dr. Bert
Common Sense Conservative for Hays County Judge
Dr. Bert Cobb is a medical doctor, not a career politician. He is running for Hays County Judge to end the cycle of reckless tax hikes and waste, and restore responsible leadership to county government.
During the current economic recession, liberal Jeff Barton and his fellow career politicians on the Hays County Commissioners Court have twice raised taxes on homeowners while increasing their own taxpayer-funded salaries by more than $8,600 and voting themselves another $9,744 as a personal car allowance. It is irresponsible and wrong for politicians to raise taxes on homeowners while padding their own paychecks.
Dr. Cobb understands that challenging times call for strong and selfless leadership. As a veteran and later as a medical doctor and chief surgeon, Dr. Cobb has devoted his life to public service. As county judge, he will end the culture of selfishness and irresponsibility on the commissioners court and focus on meeting Hays County’s growing needs.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force with the rank of major, Dr. Cobb put himself through medical school. He served as chief of surgery at Central Texas Medical Center in San Marcos and operated three area medical clinics. Dr. Cobb learned how to solve problems and balance budgets in the real world. He will bring the trustworthy ethics and straightforward approach of a medical doctor to county government.
For the past thirty years, Dr. Cobb has worked to modernize medical care in Hays County. He helped to establish the EMS and map the county for 911 emergency service. He also worked to develop Central Texas Medical Center into a first-rate hospital. Dr. Cobb is past president of the Tri-County Medical Society, where he worked with legislators and local leaders throughout Central Texas to improve medical care in the region.
Active in his profession, Dr. Cobb is board certified in head and neck surgery. He was president of the Pan American Allergy Society and served as board examiner for the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy.
His community service includes serving as president of the Rotary Club of Greater San Marcos and helping to found the Texas High School Rodeo Supporters. He has also served as an adjunct professor at Texas State University. Dr. Cobb is a certified Master Gardener and Master Naturalist, and a certified handgun and personal protection instructor for the National Rifle Association.
Dr. Cobb is married to Gaye, his high school sweetheart and wife of 44 years. Together they have two grown sons and three grandchildren. The Cobbs reside between San Marcos and Wimberley, and their home water supply comes from a rainwater collection system they personally designed and installed.
